Applied EV launches digital control system, specifically designed for the mass-production of fully autonomous vehicles

MELBOURNE, 5 January 2023 - The leader in fully autonomous Software Defined Machines™ (SDM), Applied EV, today unveils upgraded technology-stack, specifically designed for the mass-production of fully autonomous vehicles, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Designed for the industry at large, the Generation Six Digital Backbone™ brings new levels of safety with multiple layers of redundancy, making it an ideal solution for Level Four and Five autonomous applications.

In a world-first, the proprietary Digital Backbone™ is commercially available to OEMs to enable machines of all types to run entirely on software.

The latest launch is part of Applied EV's expansion plans to improve global transport solutions and deploy commercially viable Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solutions across the globe.

"After years perfecting the Digital Backbone™ in trials, we are now presenting our first fully commercial solution. It is precisely the new type of innovation that will future-proof business models and form the mainstay of the transportation industry for decades to come," says Applied EV’s CEO, Julian Broadbent.

“The Digital Backbone™ is functionally unique as it can be integrated into any traditional EV vehicles, or into our modular Blanc Robot™ platform. In turn, providing an 'application-ready' Software Defined Machine™ with the ability to service limitless industrial transport applications,” Broadbent concludes.

Originally designed and manufactured in Melbourne, Australia, the Blanc Robot™ is a cabinless universal ‘turn-key’ solution.

In addition to multiple worldwide trials with companies such as The University of Sydney, Australian Centre for Field Robotics (ACFR), Teijin and Ibeo; the Blanc Robot™ is already being utilized for industrial energy and delivery fulfillment services.

In May 2022, in partnership with Oxbotica, Applied EV conducted the first cabinless autonomous vehicle tested on publicly accessible streets in Oxford, Europe.

In September 2022, Applied EV announced a strategic investment from Suzuki Motor Corporation. The companies are currently exploring the deployment of Applied EV systems in future Suzuki EV products and the production of autonomous vehicles at scale.

The Digital Backbone™ is set to improve Suzuki’s vehicle’s feature set and accelerate the transition to autonomous transport - while simultaneously - reducing hardware complexity and providing cost efficiencies.
